Jody Johnson, LCSW, LIMHP, began working at Wholeness Healing Center as a part time therapist in 2007 and began full time in 2009. Jody graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with her Masters in Social Work. She received her bachelor degree in Social Work from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
ExperienceJody has experience working with age groups ranging from children to the elderly. Her background has provided her the opportunity to work with geriatrics in assisted living and nursing home settings. In addition, she has facilitated both grief support groups and cancer support groups. Jody was employed as a Hospice Social Worker/Bereavement Coordinator for five years and has a special interest in working with individuals encountering grief and loss. She believes one’s journey through grief is a very unique experience and can help provide extra guidance and support that is often needed to assist others in healing from the pain of loss.
Jody gained experience working in an acute psychiatric setting during her practicum. She developed skills in working with individuals encountering substance abuse, schizophrenia, mood and anxiety disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, adjustment disorders, and dual diagnosis.
Jody served as a case manager in Grand Island and executive director in Hastings within the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization assisting at-risk youth. She recognizes the benefits of both formal and informal positive mentors in the lives of youth.
Jody is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and served as a board member from 2002-2003.
Additional Training Jody has completed EEG Neurofeedback training. This technique can help a client’s brain improve its own regulation by teaching the client how to alter brain waves. Jody utilizes this bran wave training to assist individuals with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, traumatic brain injury, sleep disorders, headaches/migraines, trauma, autism, ADHD/ADD, multiple sclerosis, bipolar disorder and oppositional defiant disorder. Jody also has experience and has been trained for peak performance in neurofeedback. This approach can help maximize one’s functioning by incorporating alpha – theta brainwave training, which promotes deep relaxation.

Jody has also completed Critical Incident Stress Management training for group crisis intervention. She is trained in Gottman Couples Therapy as well as Attachment Based Therapy with couples. She has also attended several workshops to enhance her skills and knowledge regarding eating disorders, trauma, mood disorders, abuse, holistic health, and the developing brain.
Special areas of InterestJody enjoys working with families of children with Reactive Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, and ADHD/ADD. She enjoys partnering with the parents as they develop new tools and skills that assist their children in learning new ways to connect, express feelings, and manage behaviours.
Jody has completed Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and utilizes these approaches to assist those impacted by trauma to manage symptoms and heal. She also assists the family members to support their loved ones who have been affected by trauma.
Jody also enjoys working with women facing issues such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, or domestic violence. She believes in the power of the therapeutic relationship that can provide the support individuals often need to heal and make the changes they desire in their own lives.
Jody has completed Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training and is currently leading the adolescent female DBT group. Jody is also a registered service provider for adolescents and has been trained in the evaluation and treatment of substance use for adolescents.
Couples therapy is another service Jody enjoys as she finds it fulfilling to provide communication tools and relationships skills that can often enhance the relationship. She finds this therapy unique as individuals often learn a lot about themselves as well as their partner.
Jody has received training for clinical supervision. She serves as a supervisor to some of her colleagues as well as students in community counselling and social work programs.
Jody also provides home based therapy services to individuals including those in residential settings such as assisted livings and nursing homes.
PersonalJody and her husband have two children. They are currently licensed foster parents. Jody enjoys being active and being outdoors. Running has become an enjoyable pastime and a way to continue to challenge herself physically. Jody especially loves spending time with family and friends.
