Riley Smith has worked at Wholeness Healing Center since February 2020. She sees clients in the Ord office and also offers virtual appointments. She works with individuals of all ages, including children, adults, and families.
She earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology of Counseling from Morningside University.
Her therapy approach focuses on meeting clients where they are, helping them better understand themselves, supporting self-discovery, and helping clients identify their strengths so they can work toward wellness goals.
Her experience includes work with aging, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, rural Nebraska mental health needs, substance abuse, child welfare, trauma, end-of-life care, and family therapy. She also recognizes the impact of attachment and trauma and works with families and support networks when trauma has affected a loved one.
Her trainings include end-of-life care, trauma, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, EMDR, attachment, DBT, CBT, grief and loss, Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1, and critical incident stress management. She has also facilitated DBT groups and mindfulness group therapy sessions.
Riley also has training in animal-assisted therapy and is a member of Healing Hearts Therapy Dogs. She uses her dog, Fern, in her practice to help promote healing and safety for clients.
On a personal note, Riley enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, and traveling. She is also a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
