Adjunct Modalities – Round Four – Float Sessions

When I first began this series, I was hoping to educate and inform readers of different healing modalities in our area. My very first article did feature Sana Vida, in Grand Island, with their vibroacoustic bed. At that time I also enjoyed a float session in their pod. I recently was able to return there, for another session, and would like to expand on that information and experience. The float pods at Sana Vida (there are two) have been available since they opened two years ago. The sessions are 60 minutes, and clients have reported positive results dealing with their PTSD, insomnia, arthritis, back pain, and energy, as well as feeling completely relaxed at the end of the session.

My experience, two years apart, was that I could relax to the point that both times, I actually was not aware of the time passing. I initially thought an hour would be a very long time just to float, and the sound and lights at the beginning were calming, but I found myself “waiting” for them to come back on, as the signal of the completion of the session. Part way through, I forgot about waiting, not even engaged in how long the session would take. When the signal came for completion, I was gently surprised, as I hadn’t realized the time had passed. Similar experience both times at Sana Vida. When I exited, I was completely relaxed, feeling very calm, but also with a reservoir of energy. While this might not be as appealing for those who have claustrophobia (the pod closes down), I do feel the warm water, the floating, and the time to just be with oneself is extremely soothing. I would urge a trip to Sana Vida, 2604 St. Pathrick Ave., Suite 1, in Grand Island. Check out their website www.sanavidagwc.com for more information on the float sessions, and also for more information on all the offerings, as they continue to add to the services available there.

I also was recently able to experience another float session, now offered at Modern Movement Massage in Sargent in their saltwater float tank. While their float pod is a bit different, the concept and protocol is very similar. They have just recently opened this service in their building and began offering the services in March. I was able to enjoy a session, experiencing again a definite sense of relaxation. I was able to spend an hour, just floating, allowing the salt solution to relax my entire body. They also have subtle lighting, as well as gentle music, which helped the experience. This experience, because it is logistically closer to me, happened at the end of a very busy day, so I was impressed by the level of relaxation I was actually able to experience. I am also extremely pleased that such an incredible option is available in rural central Nebraska. This speaks well of the push to offer varied options without driving a long ways.

Modern Movement Massage has been in Sargent, 311 W. Main Street, for a couple years now. They began with massage, with Stephanie Klein as the LMT, then added Infrared Sauna last year, and now most recently added Float Therapy. There are Float Therapy packages available, for those who want to continue, as well as 1-time floats. Their website is www.massagebook.com/biz/modern-movement-massage-complimentary-therapy and booking can be done online.

I would highly recommend a float session, as there are so many benefits. While it might not be for everyone, this may be the perfect modality for many! An hour of uninterrupted self-reflection, just allowing the soothing of the water, is a gift we all need!
