Alchemy of the Soul A Book Review
So from time to time, I am blessed to be able to review a book written by someone I know, and this book came along at the perfect time. Sarah Lahoski is a professional counselor and a transpersonal hypnotherapist who has participated in some of the same trainings I have. So I was very interested and excited to get and read her book and I share some offerings to you, in hopes you too will be intrigued by the words she shares.
The author takes the reader from the beginning of seeking through the journey, weaving lots of information, modalities, options, etc. through the way. Lahoski writes, “So what is the point of this book? Good question. I want anyone who is looking for a different way of living to have it a little easier. I want our world to be a better place for future generations. It does not take an entire world to make evolutionary changes, but it does take our individual commitment to changing what footprint we leave behind.” (Lahoski, p. 4) Yes, that is the purpose and she so easily brings forth ways to be considered.
When I read the book, I highlighted and tagged so many things but I now have to parse that down and just share a few. Lahoski wrote about dealing with feelings, energy, chakras, polyvagal theory, disassociation, COEX, victim triangle, Epogenetics and Generational Patterns, Universal Laws, Reiki, Astrology, and others, all as a way to address our trauma in our movement toward our True Self. Lahoski shared the use of Hypnotherapy, Breathwork, Chanting, Meditation, EFT, Core Energetics, and more as options to pursue letting go of one’s trauma and stepping into embracing the TRUE SELF. Many of these come from her personal viewpoint, having experienced them.
I picked a few quotations which I think, more than anything, will give you an idea of the movement of the book. “The more we let go of what we are not, the more we will realize the greatness of what we truly are”. (Lahoski, p. 103) She then goes on to write about healing the trauma, discovering our True Self as we let go of the ego.
“As we shift these old patterns and embrace our higher selves, we begin to experience life in a radically different way. It’s like telling all our wounded inner children that we’ve arrived to change the course of their lives. They no longer have to pretend to have it all together because a wiser part has taken over, expanding their vision of who they are. This transformation alters their presence, how they perceive themselves, how they think about themselves, how they care for themselves and others, how they express themselves, how they see themselves, and how they understand their purpose”. (Lahosi, p, 111) Yes, yes, yes. Isn’t this the journey we are all on?
Lahoski later writes, “Remembering who we truly are makes it easier to let go of what we are not,” reiterating that theme, then explaining, “It is astonishing how individuals will cling to their suffering as if it were a badge of honor, which inhibits personal growth. This cyclic repetition keeps us trapped in the karmic cycle.” (Lahoski p. 130) Again, yes, so true for so many of us.
The very next page Lahoski shares, “…regardless of this we are on this journey, we are perfectly aligned with where we need to be. Each experience presents an opportunity to explore and heal, allowing us to discern if we are creating what we truly desire.” (Lahoski, p. 131)
Through the book, she brings up the importance of allowing the feelings, of being present. “The aim is to embrace the essence of our being, allowing us to see through the illusions of our previous perceptions without judgment and to release the stagnant patterns holding us back.” (Lahoski, p. 147) Again she writes of gentle ways to move this (and us) along.
If you are on your soul journey (and who isn’t?) you will find many truths in this book, along with many options to search, as not all work for everyone. I found this to be a comprehensive combination that one can use as a spiritual guidebook, one with some proven methods, along with some suggestions to pair with. She even offers up a self meditation near the end which I highly recommend.
