Our New Peak Performance Package
Peak Performance is defined as “a state in which the person performs to the maximum of their ability, characterized by subjective feelings of confidence, effortlessness and total concentration on the task.” (Peak Performance, 2013) Peak performance could be identified as a performance when we excelled – we reached our potential – we reached greatness. Perhaps we could say that reaching Peak Performance is manifesting our best self – attaining our optimal performance. Regardless of whether you set the goal of reaching your peak performance in sports, schoolwork, the arts or in your career, considering training to reach these goals is worthy of consideration.
Peak Performance is that place that you go to when you are in the zone, fully present, fully focused, and fully accessing that part of yourself that knows you can do it. There are no barriers. Your body, mind and spirit flow. It is easy. It just happens. Everything just works, coming together with acute precision and clarity. The question becomes, is this just a random experience, or can you work towards having peak performance in a focused area?
A review of the research is addressed in Dr. Greg Wells’ article, Peak Performance: Why do Athletes Sometimes Not Perform up to Expectations? (Wells, 2010) Wells contends that, “Peak performance is not involuntary, but is the result of the convergence of skills, characteristics, and situational demands and opportunities.” In his literature review, he found studies that show that the psychological characteristics of higher performers suggested that higher self-confidence was a distinguishing aspect between highly successful and less successful athletes. Other characteristics included using internal imagery more, having lower anxiety and using anxiety control techniques more, using positive self-talk more, and being more focused and having better concentration. In looking at the psychological skills used by successful athletes, researchers found that the best athletes consistently used quality training, clear daily goals, daily use of internal imagery and systematic mental preparations for competition. Other studies showed that the most common mental practices elite athletes engaged in were daily internal imagery, emotional control skills, competition simulation, relaxation techniques, positive self-talk, goal setting and a commitment to excellence. Learning to excel in having peak performances requires training and dedication, but can certainly be accomplished.
Because we are talking about mind, body and spirit needing to be integrated and focused to attain our optimal performance, we work on all of these areas concurrently in our Peak Performance training. The Energy Enhancement System is the wheel – holding the spokes of each of the other modalities. Power is magnetized and performance is magnified when all the pieces are brought together, working complementarily toward integration and wholeness. This allows you into tap into your greatest potential, implementing all the modalities to bring about focused energy.
One of the biggest barriers to reaching your best performance is your belief and what you feel you deserve. These beliefs are in your subconscious and often have been hard-wired into the brain, which becomes both a mental and a physical barrier. Negative experiences feed the beliefs, setting a loop in motion that replays over and over. Limiting beliefs become your reality. Often these limiting beliefs will carry out into physical challenges that hinder success.
