Dreams – Learning More about Our Deepest Selves
Much has been written about dreams, interpretive books who list symbols and what those might mean to us, as well as research guiding one to delve deeper. This article will discuss the process of “dream dramas” or “dream hypno therapy” which is a process utilizing the unconscious, in an altered state, to reveal what YOU believe the dream means.
So interpretive books are like “cookie cutter”, with the author assigning a meaning to a certain symbol. The process of dream drama or dream hypno comes entirely from the participant. The process begins with the dream, or any part of the dream remembered. The client writes whatever parts he/she remembers, even if it is just a “snippet”, and then shares that memory with the therapist. It is best if the dream memories are written immediately upon waking, so it helps to keep a writing utensil and a journal near the bedside. That is step one, and it only takes a short part of the memory of the dream to be able to begin the process.
In therapy, after reporting the memory, the therapist then chooses one of the two modalities, the dream drama (if other participants are available) or the dream hypno, which is just the client and therapist, using the hypnotherapy process to learn what our unconscious it ready to reveal. If other participants are available, such as in a group process (PTI-Personal Transformation Intensive), then those people would “assist” by playing parts of the dream out. Either method works to help the client learn more about what the dream “means”, which is the truth at the innermost level.
In an altered state (using hypnotherapy, which is accessing the subconscious), the client then goes back to the dream, identifying what the unconscious was revealing to and about the message. We are all parts of the dream, so it is important to learn, and then embrace, all pieces of us. All of the pieces of the dream have meaning and messages for us.
As the “message” and truth is revealed, it opens avenues of healing, roads to greater understanding, and makes available opportunities to truly embrace and love ourselves at our deepest level. The process usually takes two hours, similar to a regular hypnotherapy, or a past life hypnotherapy session, but the opportunity to dig deeper into our unconscious, housed in the meaning of the dream, sets up healing of patterns which may have been with us most of our lives. A short amount of time for a large chunk of healing!
Carl Jung extensively wrote about using the material of dreams to access our unconscious, as well as his term “Active Imagination” which is another process, similar to the dream hypnotherapy, in which the hidden truths are uncovered. While these processes have been around for many years, their use has been somewhat limited. The Wellness Institute, in Issaquah, WA , trains therapists to use the Active Imagination, Dream Dramas and Dream Hypnotherapy to guide clients to achieving their greatest potential, embracing their greatest good.
At Wholeness Healing Center, two therapists have been trained in this process and are available at all offices for appointments. If you have a dream you would like to delve into further, or a recurring dream that you are interested in learning more about, or just curious about the meanings of your dreams, please call the office to set up an appointment. Our dreams have so much to share with us!
