Wholeness Healing Employee Assistance Program & The New Generation Workforce

By Susan Milner, EAP Administrator

Recently I was presenting an orientation on Wholeness Healing EAP to employees of a central Nebraska manufacturing business when a young man (from the millennial generation) approached me at the conclusion of my presentation.  “Um, I was sort of wondering about the neurofeedback your group provides and if it might be able to help me,” he said.  “Yes, we offer this service and it helps a great deal of people with a wide variety of issues”, I answered.  As our conversation progressed, he shared with me a few details about his life and how he has always wanted to call someone for help, but never knew who to call. “Well, now you do.”  I said.   And with that I realized this was another reason why I like speaking to people about Wholeness Healing Center, our services, our people, and our EAP.

Many employers are increasingly recognizing the chance to reach young employees with EAP services — particularly with regard to mental health. When compared to older workers, younger employees seem to worry less about stigma when asking for help on mental health and substance use issues, appearing to approach EAPs much as they would other resources they need to achieve success in their jobs or resolve relationship issues. They also seem more familiar with mental health issues and have often already searched online for information before they call EAPs.

As the workforce of Millennials enter the job market, they bring with them an assortment of unique personal concerns, as well as some of the same mental health and substance use issues often seen by employers. Wholeness Healing EAP continues to develop new strategies, such as WorkLife Solutions, which provides a vast array of online technical resources for this new generation to become productive workers in the 21st Century workplace.
