Introduction to New Staff – Jody Detwieler
Hi! I’m Jody Detwieler, LICSW (she, her, hers). I graduated from Walla Walla University in 2004 with a Masters in Social Work and earned a Bachelors in Social Work from Union College in 2002. I have been practicing in the field of Social Work for 15 years, and in the clinical setting for seven years. Currently, I work full-time as a professor in the department of social work and sociology at Union College, and part-time at Wholeness Healing Center PC in telehealth service delivery.
As a therapist, I believe in strengths. I believe it’s important to recognize the gifts and talents you have, and how you can utilize those to achieve your goals. I believe that finding a good fit in a counselor is another key to good outcomes. I encourage clients to communicate what works (and doesn’t work) for them so clients have the best therapeutic experience.
Experience
I began my clinical practice at Family Guidance Center for Behavioral Healthcare in St Joseph, Missouri where I gained skills in outpatient case management, therapist, and supervisory experiences. I also received training in the SITCAP model, which is Sensory Intervention for Trauma for Children, Adolescents, and Parents and became a Certified Trauma Specialist. I also had opportunities to work as a Mental Health Screener, where I assessed crisis situations and determined whether hospitalization was needed. I also did assessments in the substance abuse unit–diagnosing alcohol and other drug related concerns.
I have been teaching in the Social Work and Sociology Program at Union College for eight years, and I had begun to miss working with clients.
It is exciting to join the talented team of clinicians at Wholeness Healing Center! I will be offering Telehealth services.
