Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires, a Book Review
Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks was first issued in 2004 and yet the teachings are still relevant today. The book is of teachings, The Teachings of Abraham. The Teachings of Abraham are channeled through Esther Hicks, and Esther writes in the Introduction, “Abraham is not about guiding anyone toward or away from anything. We want you to make all your decisions about your desires. Our only desire for you is that you discover the way to achieve your desires. (Hicks and Hicks, Ask and It Is Given)
The book is divided into 2 sections, the first being chapters of introduction to the mindset, explanation of the theory, and guidance (I believe, although she denies it in the introduction) into the vibrational frequency necessary to let go and move forward. Because we are only capable of moving where we are from, at this moment, the book is a strong reminder that “. . . you are free and that you always have been free – and that you always will be free to make your own choices.” As we create our reality, we also become empowered to accept our part in it, which then increases our accountability. As we increase our accountability, we then also develop a greater faith in allowing, thus achieving vibrational harmony.
Understanding and accepting the Law of Attraction (what we focus on increases) helps to propel us forward into greater gratitude and positive thought, as well as release negativity, doubt and fear. As the vibrational frequency increases, “. . . you discover that there is absolutely nothing that you desire that you cannot achieve.” Ask and then allow. The book is about understanding the concept of putting out there only that which we want and then backing up and allowing all the good things to come in. As we express gratitude for what we have, we then invite only good things in our lives. “”Pay attention to the way you feel, and deliberately choose thoughts – about everything –that feel good to you when you think them.” If we wish to be open to more coming in, we have to feel good about what we have, think about the good that we have, and appreciate all the good in the world.
Also included in the 1st part of the book is the explanation of the 17 second rule (which was later modified to 14 seconds). “Within 17 seconds of focusing on something, a matching vibration becomes activated”. Abraham further explains then that staying “purely focused” upon the thought for 68 seconds (17 X 4), “. . . the vibration is powerful enough that its manifestation begins.” That thought then becomes a dominant one, and your vibrational energy will expand enough to allow for the manifestation. So your power is in first thinking, then feeling, then allowing. The Universe provides the action.
The 2nd part of the book is Introducing 22 Proven Processes That Will Improve Your Point of Attraction. This part of the book is actually putting the theory into practice (raising your vibrational frequency) and involves identifying your emotional set-points for each exercise. The Rampage of Appreciation begins the series, because “The more you practice appreciation, the less resistance you will have in your own vibrational frequencies.” As you release the resistance, you are actually asking the Universe for more. Appreciation helps move one from the negative into the positive, which decreases the resistance and increases the allowing, strengthening the alignment with Source.
The 22 Processes (I will write more about a few of them in a later article about Manifesting) are relatively easy to incorporate, and as you begin to see the success of allowing, you then can expand your asking, to health, wealth, relationships, whatever it is you are desiring to attract. The Process of Meditation encourages the reader to “release any thought that causes resistance so that you are then in a place of pure, positive thought”, which then connects you to Source energy and moves you into a vibrational state of allowing. Creating deliberate thought allows for the alignment.
Jerry and Esther Hicks have a long list of books available, and Esther, channeling Abraham, makes quite a few personal appearances throughout the world during the course of the year. There are also CD’s available and I listen daily to the recorded conferences on U-Tube. For years I have listened to the Vortex CD’s available, and hearing and reading the words, and then incorporating them seems to open and invite only more good things in.
This book, and the others by Jerry and Esther Hicks, are well worth the read, and by implementing some of the processes, you can prove to yourself just how incredible the Law of Attraction in practice is, thus moving yourself into greater alignment with Source.
